SUPW WORK SHOP

January 24 & 25, 2023

Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) is a "purposive productive work and services related to the needs of the child and the community, which will be proved meaningful to the learner.
The SUPW program started on January 24 . Principal Santhosh Kumar sir was the general convenor. Jayakrishna teacher was the program coordinator of SUPW. Gowri Venu was the student coordinator.
Two elder skilled craftsperson  took a class on this and they took the class in great detail about the methods of making . Not only that, but they also shared common knowledge and their experiences with us.
The main purpose of SUPW is to provide social as well as economic activities to the children for a better understanding of scientific processes and practicals involved directly or indirectly in the future opportunities and social atmosphere. On the first day, we were taught how to make lotion and detergent. Most of the students participated in this program.
We have produced 14 bottles of lotions with a nice fragrance. Each bottle of lotion was given to each department in our college for cleaning purpose.  Then we prepared the soap solution for making soap.
On the second day we made soap. Soap making was interesting. Now Most of the students in the class know how to make soap. So this program ended today with great success. Today we understood that , it is so easy to learn to make these products. After learning this, I realized that it will be very useful in our life. Thanks to the college principal who gave us an opportunity to study it and the teachers who taught it. We look forward to more such activities.

Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) bridges the gap between life and education, education and work. It makes learning effective and valuable. It correlates knowledge with craft and theory with practice. It may help to increase national pro-ductivity and self-employment.

FIELD TRIP

January 20, 2023
Friday
Today we went on a field trip from GCTE. Places I went to: Kuthiramalika Palace, Palm Leaf Manuscript Museum. All these were places in Thiruvananthapuram . Today 51 people from our college participated in this field trip. Similarly, the teachers of our college were also there. The first place we went to was the kuthiramalika Palace. That one palace is very beautifully built. The palace is more than 200 years old. We all looked at the palace in awe. We were very much fascinated by each and every building work there as well as the pictures displayed there. There was a guide there to show us more about the palace. So we got a rough idea about that palace. The beauty of that palace cannot be described enough. After seeing this whole palace, we walked to the next palace. What is special about it is that there were pictures of all the kings and the royal family who ruled Travancore. Not only the pictures but also pictures of the important celebrations that took place there were also included. So after seeing the two palaces, we next went to the museum where the palm leaf scriptures are kept. There were also things that surprised us because there is a collection of more than one crore palm leaf books and there is no other palm leaf museum like this anywhere else in the world. I was very surprised to find palm leaves from the 13th century in its collection.Today was very useful trip. I am very happy that I was given a chance to go here. Today's field trip wassimple and today I realized that there is no point in going to far away places without knowing what is going on around us. I would like to thank all the teachers and principal of our college for giving me such an opportunity.

Wednesday
Today our induction programme was started. I selected Cotton Hill School for this induction programme. Eleven from the social science department participated in this induction program. We first met and got to know the headmaster, Rajesh Babu sir. He gave us proper advice and instructions. He also gave us permission to take photos. I am the team leader so I arranged the things to be done for the induction program and put them in the group. The name of the WhatsApp group was Cotton Hill Induction program. There are 14 people in this group. I separated the group members into five groups and put their tasks in the WhatsApp group. So the work I have is reduced by half. I handed over the attendance book to the headmaster of the school in the morning. There was an assembly today. We also participated in it. It was in the open-air auditorium. Only children from the tenth division (A-M) participated in the assembly. Today, all the teachers in that school were busy distributing evaluated answer sheets. There were three of us in my group. Everyone walked around the school and collected details.  I got to meet a class of students today. This was my first experience. Today was a very happy day for me.
